TL;DR

Agios Ioannis is a picturesque newly founded village with great archeological interest.

Agios Ioannis is a picturesque village with well laid-out streets and a long farming tradition only 8km from Monemvasia. It was built 150 years ago by the inhabitants of the surrounding area at an altitude of 260m. Today it has 560 inhabitants. On the east, near the beach, there is a hill where have been discovered the ruins of the acropolis of the ancient city of Limiras in Epidaurus, dated from the Hellenistic era. The area was inhabited since the Early Helladic period, but it thrived in antiquity. Between the village and the site of acropolis, Mycenaean vases were discovered in chamber tombs.

In the village, renowned for its taverns and its natural beauty, there is also Agios Ioannis church.
