Chiliomodi is a semi-mountainous village with 1700 residents, located 21km away from Corinth, and can be reached by the old Corinth-Argos Highway, at an altitude of 340m above sea level. Its name is associated with a local unit of size measurement (depending on the season and the place of use of the term), the so-called “Modi” (hence “Chiliomodi”, “Chilia Modia”, meaning “a thousand modi”). In this case, it is speculated that the name originates from the nearby Monastery of Faneromeni buying an area of land equal to a thousand “modi”. The monastery is located near the village, a complex composed of an old monastery built in the 13th century, as well as another, newer one. The old monastery is famous for its murals. Nowadays the economy of the area is based in agricultural production and trading. There are many clubs and associations in the village, such as the Hunters' club, the Christian Home of Chiliomodi, as well as athletic-oriented clubs, such as the A.S. of Chiliomodi (a basketball team), and the Atromitos Chiliomodiou (“Chiliomodi's Fearless”, a soccer team). A famous Greek actress, Irene Pappa, was born in Chiliomodi.
