TL;DR

A traditional village with picturesque roads, a festival in August 15th, beautiful monasteries and long history of battles against Turks and Germans.

Vlacherna is located at the foothills of Mount Mainalo at an altitude of 854m and has approximately 370 residents. Vlacherna is 32km from Tripoli and only 12km from the historical village of Vytina. It is designated as a traditional village with an exceptional street plan and broad roads.

Just above the village rises the imposing rock of Bezenikos at 1,150m. On the top of the rock there was the Bezenikos Castle where in 1458, the Greeks resisted heroically against the Turks and again in 1826 against Ibrahim.

The monasteries of Panagia of Vlacherna (Holy Mother of God of Vlacherna) and Agia Eleousa (St. Eleousa) are certainly worth visiting. The region also has remarkable byzantine churches.

On July 21th 1944, the residents resisted selflessly against the Germans and at the site of the battle lies a memorial. On August 15th, the village organizes a big festival with music, drinks and food. A week before, the Feast of the Shepherd is celebrated.
