A small picturesque village that is a great spot for vacations, combining sea and mountain, and offering a wide variety of hotels, rooms to rent, etc.

Foinikounda is a small picturesque village in Messinia region, evolved in one of the most beautiful summer vacation spots of South Peloponnese; it combines perfectly both mountain and sea.

Foinikounda is in an ancient, historical area. It is thought to be founded by the Phoenicians who settled the shores of Peloponnese in that area. Pausanias writes that the area was a port after the Cape of Akritas, called “Phoinikous Limin”.

The visitor can enjoy the sandy beaches with their crystal clear waters that surround the village, as well as the picturesque scenery, very well developed touristically, that has made Foinikounda in a popular vacation spot. The area offers a wide variety of hotels, rooms for rent and organised camping areas.

Foinikounta is 70 kilometres from Kalamata. It can be reached from Athens through the national road of Athens – CorinthTripoli, and then following the road from Tripoli to Megaloupoli and Kalamata. After reaching Kalamata, there are signs leading to the village of Foinikounda.
