Kiato is a coastal town of 9,800 inhabitants 22km northwest of Corinth. The region had been inhabited since the Mycenaean era and the ancient city of Sicyon is only 4km southwest of Kiato. The economy of the city is based on commerce and recently it has become a popular tourist destination thanks to Kiato’s proximity to Athens, the incredible beaches and the most interesting sites, such as ancient Sicyon. The archeological museum of Sicyon, the ancient theater (one of the biggest in Greece) and the incredible Mougostos oak forest are some of the most interesting sites in the region. The inhabitants, as well as the municipality are very dynamic in the cultural sector, thus proposing a host of places to see and visit. On August 6, a grand fete is organized to celebrate the feast of Metamorfosis Sotiros (Transfiguration of the Christ) with a lot of festivities all over town.
