The Collection was inaugurated in July 1999, in order to present the archaeological findings of the excavations realized in Monemvasia that testify the long human presence in the region. The collection is in the old mosque at the central square of Elkomenos in Kato Poli. The exhibits include architectural sculptures and ceramic objects of the residents’ everyday life. The sculptures of the collection come from the church of Aghia Sophia (Saint Sophia) and a deserted byzantine church of the 12th century. Objects from the 4th century AD to the 19th century are also included. Admission is free.
