TL;DR

A small town in the Corinthian region, with many churches and chapels to visit.

Zevgolatio is a small town in the Corninthian region, with approximately 4,400 residents. The latter are mainly occupied with agriculture, and there are also a lot of small industries for preparing and packaging agricultural products for the market. The village is located at an altitude of just 44 meters above sea level, and its old name was 'Tranozevgolatio'. The area has been inhabited since ancient times, and during the 11th-12th century, it was already famous for the grand festivals held there. Zevgolatio houses the church of Agios Nikolaos, which celebrates every 6th of December, as well as the church of Kimisi tis Theotokou (meaning “Dormition of the Virgin”), which celebrates in a very bright and luminous manner every 23rd of August, with the locals participating in a procession of the churche's icon. There is also the cemetery church of Agios Georgios, the church of Evaggelismos tis Theotokou (meaning “Annunciation”) which celebrates every 25th of March (in the Greek Old Calendar date). The village also houses the church of Agia Varvara, built during the Axis occupation of Greece in World War II. It is a private church, and it celebrates every 4th of December. In the area of Skinthi, in Zevgolatio, visitors can see the church of Konstantinos kai Eleni, which was built by a local resident in 1993, after a dream they had in 1990. In the surrounding areas of the village, visitors can also find many chapels.
